Thanks to the good people of Ōtaki, Ōtaki Bike Space recently gave away 46 donated and revamped bikes. Our regular bike gang plus EkeRua ReBicycle crew (ngā mihi!) fixed 16 more.
Tiaka (middle photo in the gallery below) brought back a wheel from last year's Giveaway, which had mysteriously deflated.
Multiple repairs elsewhere had been unsuccessful. Turns out there was a hedgehog quill stuck in it.
Debs (top right photo) started riding with the encouragement of her daughters after they received Ōtaki Bike Space bikes last year. A family trip to Finland showed that biking can be an easy, practical part of daily life. 'And fun', said Debs.
Why are we so keen to give bikes a friendly push?
Climate change. Carbon emissions. The climate crisis. To reduce energy expenditure.
To spend less, and use less energy (petrol).
To build better energy (personal).
This was 2025's second giveaway and repair day.
We appreciate the ongoing support of Ōtaki New World, and of course the volunteers whose time and skills make the whole project do wheelies around our hearts. Spins around our bins. Skids around our lids. In short, you rock...so others can roll.
